Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The agreed contents of the Heads of States of IGAD in their 14th session praised the efforts of the Somali Government in its fight against the Al-Shabaab terrorists.
1. The leaders of IGAD praised the achievements of the war against Al-Shabaab terrorists, while also calling for the lifting of the arms embargo on Somalia, which is an obstacle for the Somali Armed Forces.
2. To reorganize the administrative process of the IGAD umbrella, with equal chairing by one of the members States every year.
3. That the Deputy Secretary General of IGAD should be a Somali, appointed by the Federal Government of Somalia, while Mr. Workneh Gebeyehu, who is the current Secretary of IGAD, has been extended for a period of 4 years.
4. The leaders called on the International Community to give financial and political support to the Federal Government of Somalia in implementing the decisions reached by the National Consultative Council of Somalia.
5. IGAD called on the parties to the conflict in Las’anod to stop the fighting as soon as possible and to resolve their differences through dialogue.
