Jowhar, Hirshabeelle, Somalia – The President of Hirshabeelle, H.E. Ali Abdullahi Hussein (Ali Guudlaawe), today received a high-level delegation from UNICEF at the Presidential Palace in Jowhar. The visit underscores the ongoing commitment to addressing the critical needs of children and vulnerable communities across Hirshabeelle.

The UNICEF delegation was led by Mr. Naser Sayid, who serves as the acting head of UNICEF in Somalia and also holds the crucial position of head of programs. Upon their arrival in Jowhar, the UNICEF officials demonstrated their dedication to understanding the local context by immediately proceeding to inspect the Kulmis Health Center. This visit to a vital healthcare facility provided the delegation with firsthand insight into the health challenges and the operational capacities on the ground, particularly concerning maternal and child health services.

During the discussions at the Presidential Palace, President Ali Abdullahi Hussein expressed his profound gratitude for UNICEF’s unwavering support and extensive humanitarian work in Hirshabeelle. He highlighted the urgent need for continued collaboration in critical areas such as child protection, nutrition, health, education, and water and sanitation (WASH). The President reiterated his administration’s readiness to facilitate UNICEF’s programs, emphasizing the importance of sustainable interventions that build resilience and improve the long-term well-being of the region’s youngest inhabitants.

Mr. Naser Sayid, on behalf of UNICEF, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to its mandate in Somalia and specifically in Hirshabeelle. He lauded the regional administration for its cooperation and discussed strategies to further enhance the effectiveness and reach of UNICEF’s initiatives. The discussions also touched upon the challenges posed by recurrent humanitarian crises, including climatic shocks and internal displacement, and explored mechanisms for a more coordinated and robust response to these pressing issues.

This meeting serves as a powerful affirmation of the enduring partnership between the Hirshabeelle State Government and UNICEF. Both parties articulated a shared vision for a future where every child in Hirshabeelle has access to essential services and opportunities to thrive, even amidst complex challenges. The engagement is anticipated to pave the way for expanded programs and renewed efforts to secure a brighter and more stable future for the children of Hirshabeelle. The Somali National News Agency (SONNA) reported on this crucial meeting, highlighting its importance for humanitarian efforts in the region.
