SONNA – The SRCC and Head of ATMIS Amb. Souef Mohamed El-Amine briefed the UN Security Council (UNSC) A3 members on the situation in Somalia where he reported on significant progress made on the country’s key national priorities, including ongoing operations against Al-Shabaab.
Thanking the UNSC A3 members for their commitment to peace and security in Somalia, the SRCC welcomed the return of Eritrean-trained SNA troops and called on international partners to increase support to the Somali Security Forces for continued success.
The SRCC stressed the need for equipping the SSF, especially with the appropriate firepower and adequate ammunition supplies.
He further urged the Security Council to seriously consider the FGS’s request for an increase in the United Nations Support Office in Somalia – UNSOS support package beyond the mandated 13 900.
