Addis Ababa, (SONNA) – The 70th Greater Horn of Africa Climate Outlook Forum (GHACOF70), held in Addis Ababa, has forecasted below-average rainfall across most regions of Somalia during the June to September (JJAS) 2025 rainy season.
The seasonal outlook, released by the IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC), raises concern for Somali farmers, humanitarian organizations, and government agencies, as reduced rainfall could negatively impact crop production, water availability, and food security. The situation calls for urgent preparedness and early response to mitigate the risk of drought and its humanitarian consequences.
The forum brought together climate experts, government representatives from IGAD member states, and international development partners to discuss the critical role of climate forecasting in early warning systems and climate change adaptation strategies.
All stakeholders—government institutions, development partners, community organizations, and farmers—are urged to take immediate action based on the forecast to reduce potential impacts and safeguard livelihoods across Somalia.
