Mogadishu, Somalia – December 7, 2024 – Residents of Beled Hawo district in the Gedo region gathered today to demonstrate their support for the Somali Government’s strategic plan for Jubbaland. The demonstration saw various sections of society come together to voice their strong rejection of the self-election of former Jubbaland President Ahmed Madobe and the interference of the Ethiopian government in regional clan affairs.
Traditional elders, community leaders, and citizens united in their stance, emphasizing the importance of a unified approach to governance and electoral processes. One of the traditional elders, speaking at the demonstration, expressed unwavering support for the Federal Government of Somalia’s decisions.
“As traditional elders, today we welcome and support the decision of the Federal Government of Somalia against Jubbaland, the decision of the two Houses of Parliament to approve the one-person-one-vote electoral agreement, and the unity of the Somali nation,” the elder stated.
The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, reaffirmed his government’s commitment to democratic principles and the implementation of one-person-one-vote elections. He emphasized the importance of collective effort in achieving progress and ensuring that the electoral process benefits all citizens.
“Justice plays an important role in life, economically, socially, in security and in leadership. It is an important issue, and it is related to rights and truth that are clarified, without giving people priority based on color, clan or power,” President Mohamud said.
The demonstration in Beledxawo highlights the strong support for the Somali Government’s initiatives and the collective desire for a fair and transparent electoral process. The unity displayed by the residents of Gedo region serves as a testament to the nation’s commitment to democratic values and the pursuit of a stable and prosperous future.
