Dhusomareeb, SONNA – The Minister for Youth and Sports of Galmudug State, Mr. Mohamed Hussein Jama (Maru’uf), warmly welcomed members of the Somali Media Council to the newly renovated ministry headquarters. The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration between the ministry and the media while highlighting the critical role of journalism in fostering development and accountability.
During the meeting, Minister Maru’uf led the delegation on a tour of the ministry’s facilities and provided an overview of its ongoing activities. He expressed his gratitude for the Media Council’s visit and reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with media organizations to promote youth development and ethical journalism.
In his address, the minister emphasized that the majority of Galmudug’s population consists of young people, who require guidance to become productive and professional in various fields, including journalism. He stressed the importance of responsible and ethical reporting, particularly in the context of the ongoing fight against Khawaarij in parts of the country. Minister Maru’uf urged journalists to be cautious in their messaging, noting that insecurity affects everyone, including media professionals. He warned against inadvertently motivating extremist elements or spreading their propaganda through irresponsible reporting.
“Journalists cannot afford to be neutral in the face of threats to our society,” the minister stated. “The media must play a constructive role in promoting peace, transparency, and accountability.”
Minister Maru’uf also highlighted the media’s potential as a tool for positive change, emphasizing its ability to hold elected leaders accountable and ensure effective service delivery. He called for productive use of media platforms to foster transparency and good governance.
The Director General of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Abdiaziz Mohamed Garhaye echoed the minister’s sentiments, expressing the ministry’s enthusiasm for partnering with the Media Council. He reiterated the ministry’s commitment to supporting youth initiatives and working with the media to amplify these efforts.
Abdiqani Abdullahi, Senior Advisor to the Media Council, thanked Minister Maru’uf for the warm reception and commended his dedication to empowering Galmudug’s youth. He praised the minister’s leadership and the progress made under his tenure.
Hinda Dahir Jama, Director of Training for the Somali Media Council, provided an overview of the council’s activities and thanked Minister Maru’uf for his support. She emphasized the importance of collaboration between the media and government institutions to achieve shared goals.
The event was also attended by key stakeholders, including Hassan Abdirahman, Director of Training at the Galmudug Ministry of Information, Galmudug Youth Leader, and representatives from local media organizations. Their presence emphasized the collective effort to strengthen ties between the government, media, and youth in Galmudug.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to fostering a productive partnership between the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Media Council, with a focus on promoting youth development, ethical journalism, and national stability.
