NEW YORK, United Nations – The French Republic has formally reaffirmed its full and unwavering support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia. Addressing the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Tuesday, the French delegation delivered a strong message of solidarity with Mogadishu, emphasizing that the preservation of Somalia’s national unity is essential for regional stability.
During the session, France explicitly voiced its backing for the Federal Government of Somalia in its ongoing military campaigns against the “Kharijites.” The delegation commended the determination of the Somali National Army and the government’s leadership in liberating territories from the grip of the terrorist group. Paris highlighted that the fight against extremism in the Horn of Africa remains a shared priority, pledging continued cooperation to ensure the defeat of these destabilizing forces.
The French representative stressed that respect for the sovereignty of member states is a fundamental principle of the United Nations Charter. By supporting the Federal Government’s authority over its entire territory, France aligned itself with other major powers in rejecting any moves that could lead to fragmentation. The delegation urged the international community to remain focused on supporting Somalia’s state-building agenda and its efforts to eradicate the threat posed by the Kharijites.
This statement from a permanent member of the Security Council adds significant diplomatic weight to Somalia’s position. It reinforces the partnership between Paris and Mogadishu, not only in the diplomatic arena but also in the security sector, where France has long been a key partner in European and international efforts to stabilize the region.
