Mogadishu, (SONNA):- The former prime minister of Somalia, Mohamed Hussein Roble, has urged the Somali people and politicians to back the 10-year defense and economic cooperation agreement that Somalia and Turkey signed on Wednesday.

Speaking to the national media, Roble described the agreement as historic and important for both countries, as it will enhance the security and development of Somalia.

“Indeed, the agreement is historic and important for Somalia and Turkey, as well as for the people and the government of Somalia, and the reason why it is important is because it is a cooperation agreement for defense and the economy, and defense is the way to protect the security of this country and the training of our sea, land and air forces is up to the government,” Roble said.

He also said that the agreement will help Somalia to overcome the challenges that face its sovereignty and resources, such as illegal fishing, piracy, and foreign interference.

“Also, this agreement protects Somalia from all obstacles, whether it is the countries that steal fish illegally, whether it is the countries that do what they want in our sea and the pirates who harm our people. The strength of our naval force will be good for Somalia,” he said.

The Somali government has praised the agreement with Turkey as a historic victory for the Somali people and the government, and noted that it is important to protect Somali land and property.
