Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Abdisalan Abdi Ali, has called on the Somali diaspora to strengthen their support for the Somali National Army (SNA), emphasizing that their role in safeguarding national security is as vital as their contributions to families back home.
Speaking at an event organized by the Ministry’s Department of Diaspora and Communities, the Minister reflected on the diaspora’s critical role over the past three decades, particularly following the collapse of the central government in 1991. He praised their unwavering support during years of civil unrest, displacement, and humanitarian crises.
The Minister revealed that the Ministry is currently constructing a dedicated facility for diaspora affairs, expected to be completed within five months. The building will host official meetings, events, and programs aimed at deepening diaspora engagement.
He also unveiled plans for key initiatives, including the annual Somali Diaspora Investment Forum and “Diaspora Night,” both intended to enhance cooperation and build stronger ties between Somali communities abroad and national institutions.
Minister Abdisalan reiterated the importance of diaspora-led support for the armed forces, stating that continued backing is essential for sustaining peace and stability across Somalia.
