NEW DELHI, India – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali, landed in New Delhi on Friday to represent the nation at the high-level Arab-India Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. The visit highlights Somalia’s strategic intent to deepen diplomatic engagement with major Asian economies within the Arab League framework.
The Ministry stated that Somalia’s participation in this forum is driven by three core objectives: reinforcing political dialogue, expanding bilateral and multilateral economic partnerships, and advancing the principles of South-South Cooperation. The delegation aims to leverage this platform to attract investment and align Somalia’s development trajectory with the broader economic currents connecting the Arab world and the Indian subcontinent. By engaging directly with Indian and Arab counterparts, the Minister seeks to secure practical agreements that benefit the Somali trade and infrastructure sectors.
Upon arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport, the Foreign Minister and his delegation were accorded a formal diplomatic reception. They were received by the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to India, H.E. Abdullahi Mohamed Odowaa, alongside senior diplomats from the Somali Embassy. On behalf of the host nation, the delegation was greeted by Dr. Suresh Kumar, a high-ranking official representing the Ministry of External Affairs of the Republic of India.
This summit comes at a time when Somalia is actively reasserting its diplomatic presence on the global stage, seeking to diversify its international partnerships and secure economic opportunities for its growing market.
