Arusha, (SONNA) — The regional meeting of the Customs Subcommittee of the East African Community (EAC) was successfully concluded in Arusha, Tanzania, bringing together directors and technical experts from member states to discuss regional integration, trade facilitation, customs modernization, procedural harmonization, and the implementation of the EAC Customs Protocol.
The summit focused on strengthening cooperation among customs administrations across the EAC region, improving trade logistics, and enhancing cargo management systems to ease movement across borders.
Somalia was represented by a delegation led by Mr. Abuukar Sheikh Ahmed Mursal, Director of Customs at the Ministry of Finance, accompanied by senior customs experts. The Somali delegation presented a report highlighting recent achievements in reforming and modernizing the country’s customs sector. They also shared valuable insights and proposals aimed at deepening regional collaboration and boosting trade efficiency.
