Federal Government of Somalia’s Weekly Briefing
Mogadishu, Friday, 27th December, 2024

1- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud returned to the country after fruitful talks with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki in Asmara.

2- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud hosted a dinner meeting for Somali businessmen at Villa Somalia, and praised their contribution to the implementation of the new Mogadishu plan that will change the image of the capital.

3- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met at Villa Somalia with the Minister of Higher Education of the Republic of Algeria Mr. Kamel Badari and his delegation.

4- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held talks with the Italian Ambassador to Somalia Pier Mario Daccò Coppi.

5- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud congratulated the Somali Police Force on the commemoration of the 81st anniversary of the establishment of the police force.

6- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has declared that after 56 years, the country will hold a free and fair elections and urged the Somali Police Force to strengthen the security and safety of the voting citizens.

7- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre has made a mini reshuffle in his cabinet.

8- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre held a meeting with the Elections and Boundaries Committee, urging them to act quickly in the implementation of the elections.

9- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre congratulated the Somali Police Force on its 81st anniversary.

10- The Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia Mr. Salah Ahmed Jama visited various ministries including National Planning, Trade and Industry, Transport and Aviation, Finance, and the Central Bank and was briefed by the heads of these institutions.

11- The Speaker of the House of the People Sheikh Adan Mohamed Noor (Madobe) has sent his congratulations to the police force on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of the founding of the Somali Police Force.

12- Somali Armed forces with the help of international friends have killed Mohamed Mire Jama (Abu Abdirahman) who was a senior member of the Kharijites Al Shabab terrorist group.

13- The Minister of Internal Security of Somalia, Mr. General Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag, visited the military training school in Garbaharey district, while on a working visit to Gedo Region.

14- Somali government officials attended the funeral prayers of Sheikh Muse Noor Sheikh Muse Adde who recently passed away.

15- The Somali government has taken over the leadership of the East African Security Force (EASF) from the Rwandan government, whose mandate is to promote peace and security in the region.

16- The Minister of Internal Security, Mr. Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartag) held meetings with traditional elders, youth and women’s organizations in Garbaharey District, Gedo Region.

17- The Minister of Interior Ali Yusuf Ali Hoosh opened a meeting where the Strategic Plan of the National Reconciliation Process was presented.

18- The Somali government has strongly condemned an act of violence committed by the Ethiopian forces in the town of Dolow in Somalia.

19- A statement from the Ministry of Internal Security said that suspect Ahmed Mohamed Islam committed abuses against the people of Jubbaland.

20- The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ahmed Maallin Fiqi, had an important meeting in Cairo with Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt.

21- The Minister of Communication and Technology Mohamed Adan Macallin participated in the annual conference of technology professionals held in Mogadishu.

22- The Governor of Banadir Region, who is also the Mayor of Mogadishu, Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Amir met with the Elections and Borders Committee in Mogadishu.

23- The Commander of the Land Forces of the Somali National Army, Brigadier General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, has arrived in the area of Hawadley in the Middle Shabelle Region, where a heavy defeat was delivered to the Kharijites Al Shabab.

24- Doyow Osman Ali, a member of the Kharijites Al Shabab terrorist group has surrendered to the Special Police Force of the South West State in the Bur-Hakaba district of the Bay region.

25- The National Elections and Borders Committee held consultations with some government departments, clerics and community organizations, discussing their role in the elections.

26- The Commander of the Somali Police Force Brigadier General Asad Osman Abdullahi has closed a training for police officers at the General Kahiye Police Academy in Mogadishu.

27- The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ahmed Macallin Fiqi, had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner.

28- Galmudug security forces have arrested a man who is believed to have killed Hassan Quri who was an officer of the Somali Police, Galmudug division.

29- The State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ali Mohamed Omar, held a bilateral meeting with the State Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Ambassador Mesganu Arega, in Addis Ababa.
