Federal Government of Somalia’s Weekly Briefing

1- President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Mr. Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud had a farewell meeting with the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations for Somalia Mrs. Catriona Laing.
2- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre held a meeting in Nairobi with the Vice President of Kenya, Rigathi Gachagua, where they discussed strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
3- Somalia and Kenya held talks on cooperation between the two countries in Nairobi and signed cooperation agreements.
4- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre, opened a workshop on the growth and development of the country’s economy, and said that the goal of the government is to bear fruit from the efforts for the development of an inclusive and stable economy.
5- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre received in Mogadishu the Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Somalia, Mr. Ahmed Juma Al Rumaithi, and discussed the strengthening of traditional relations and cooperation between the two countries..
6- Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre had a farewell meeting with the Special Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations in charge of Somalia, Catriona Laing, who concluded her diplomatic tenure in the country.
7- The Cabinet of the Federal Government of Somalia has approved a cooperation agreement between Somalia and Turkey related to judicial cooperation and the transfer of convicted criminals in prisons.
8- The Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia, Mr. Salah Ahmed Jama, participated in the Summit of Islamic Countries in Banjul, Republic of Gambia.
9- The Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia Mr. Salah Ahmed Jama had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Mr. Hakan Fidan in Banjul, where the strengthening of cooperation between the two countries was discussed.
10- The Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Macallin Mohamud, inaugurated the SAGAL Project Social Welfare Conference in Mogadishu.
11- The National Disaster Management Agency (SODMA) has issued warnings that floods may affect some districts of the country, such as; Dolow, Luuq, Buale, Jilib, Baled Weyne, Buulo Burde, Jalalaqsi, Mahaday, Jowhar, Balcad and others.
12- The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia H.E. Daud Aweis Jama, congratulated Somali journalists on the celebration of International Press Freedom Day on May 3.
13- The Minister of Information H.E. Daud Aweis Jama met Italian Ambassador to Somalia Pier Mario Coppi, and discussed strengthening ties between the two countries.
14- The Minister of Interior, Federal and Reconciliation of Somalia Mr. Ali Yusuf Ali (Hoosh) met with the British Ambassador to Somalia Mike Nithavrianakis in Mogadishu and discussed the programs of liberation, stabilization and early recovery, re- reconciliation and election plans of the Somali government.
15- The Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Mr. Abdillahi Bidhan Warsame, held a meeting with the companies that provide water services in Mogadishu.
16- The Minister of Finance of Somalia Mr. Bihi Iman Ige had a meeting with the officials of the Somali Chamber of Commerce.
17- The Minister of Interior, Federal and Reconciliation of Somalia, Mr. Ali Yusuf Hosh, has visited the headquarters of the National Elections Committee, and received briefing about the ongoing activities and plans from the officials of the committee.
18- The Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing of Somalia, Mr. Abdisalan Ali Dhay, had a meeting with the head of the Turkish TIKA Agency in Somalia, Mr. Zafer ESKI, who discussed the promotion of working relations between the two sides and cooperation in the reconstruction of the country’s economic infrastructure.
19- The Deputy Minister of Defense of Somalia, Mr. Abdifatah Qasim, opened a conference in Mogadishu on the management of weapons, ammunition and explosives, first of its kind since arms embargo was lifted from Somalia.
20- The Deputy Minister of Planning, Investment and Economic Development of Somalia, Mr. Mohamed Abdulqadir Ali, and the Head of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Somalia, Sheri-Nouane Duncan-Jones, jointly held the Review meeting of USAID Development Mission.
21- The Minister of State for Health of Somalia Mrs. Maryan Mohamed Hussein launched the campaign for surgeries and treatment of children born with holes in the heart, which is being implemented in collaboration with Madale Foundation and the Red Sea Cardiac Hospital.
22- The Commander of the Land Forces, Brigadier General Dayah Abdi Abdulle, went to Baidoa to intensify the military operations against the Kharijites Al Shabab in the South West region.
23- The Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority of SoDMA, Mr. Mohamud Maallim Abdulle, had a meeting with the Acting Ambassador of China to Somalia, Mr. Chen Wendi.
24- The Court of Appeal of Banadir region heard for the second time the case against the accused Sayid-Ali Macalin Daud who is accused of burning his wife to death in Mogadishu.
25- The National Army has killed leaders and militiamen of the Kharijites Al-Shabab in the areas of Sarman Dhere and Moro Bus-Bus in the Bay Region of the South West State.
26- Somalia’s ambassador to Turkey, Fathu-din Ali Mohamed, visited one of the prisons in the city of Ankara, where there are Somali citizens, and observed the conditions of the citizens in the country’s prisons.
27- The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) foiled an assassination attempt by two Kharijites Al Shabab conspirators in Dharkenley district of Banadir region, killing one and capturing the other.
28- The Senior Advisor to the President, Ambassador Dahir Mohamud Gelle, delivered a message to the senior leaders of Libyan government from the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud.
29- Somali forces have killed a senior leader from the Kharijites group, Abdullahi Mohamed Yare (Malaaq Qori) in a military operation in Bakool.
