Federal Government of Somalia’s Weekly Briefing

Mogadishu, Wednesday, 1st May, 2024

1- The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has congratulated the workers of Somalia on the International Labor Day on May 1.

2- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held a meeting in Mogadishu with the head of Turkish Intelligence Agency Ibrahim Kalin.

3- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud participated in the African Summit and the World Bank in Nairobi, where he presented the Somali government’s plan for investment and to divert funded projects to the country’s economic infrastructure and production.

4- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and his delegation attended the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Unity Day of the Republic of Tanzania in Dar Es Salaam.

5- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan held a meeting in Dar Es Salaam.

6- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud who went on an official visit to Tanzania visited the Drug Storage Center and Muhimbili Hospital in Dar Es Salaam.

7- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held a meeting with the Somali community in Tanzania in Dar Es Salaam.

8- President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud visited Zanzibar Islands in Tanzania, where he held talks with President Hussein Ali Mwinyi.

9- Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has congratulated all the workers of Somalia on International Labor Day.

10- Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre instructed all government agencies that meetings between different levels of government agencies cannot be held outside the country.

11- Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre inaugurated the meeting of the implementation process of the National Reconciliation Process.

12- Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, who was present at a drill presented by troops trained to protect Somalia’s coasts, praised the European Union for the training and high skills of the troops, who were prepared to take over the security of Somalia’s coasts.

13- Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre chaired a special meeting to discuss the process of ensuring food security in Somalia.

14- Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre received in Mogadishu the Special Envoy of the President of Serbia in charge of the Horn of Africa, Mr. Vladimir Orlié.

15- Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre held a meeting with members of Parliament of the East African Economic Cooperation Regional Organization who visited the country.

16- The Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia, Mr. Salah Ahmed Jama, has called a meeting on the unification of government media messages for the heads of the media offices of the Federal Government of Somalia.

17- The Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia Mr. Salah Ahmed Jama chaired the meeting of the sub-committee of the Cabinet on the Stabilization Program.

18- The Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia, Mr. Salah Ahmed Jama, opened the quarterly meeting of the forum for coordinating activities to prevent and combat violent extremist ideas, which was organized by the Tubsan National Center.

19- The Cabinet has approved three agreements reached by the Governments of Somalia and Tanzania.

20- The meeting of the seven richest countries in the world, G7, issued a statement praising the progress made by the Somali government in the fields of security, politics and economy.

21- The government of Somalia has welcomed the statement of the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Conference, which praised the progress made by the government of Somalia.

22- The Minister of Health of Somalia, Dr Ali Haji Abubakar, has launched the Better Lives Project for the development of public health, which will be implemented in Galmudug, Jubaland and Banadir Region, and will benefit approximately 1.5 million people.

23- The Federal Government of Somalia has expressed its condolences to the Kenyan government and its people for those who died in the floods caused by the heavy rains.

24- The Federal Government of Somalia announced that more than 100 members of the Kharijites Al Shabab have surrendered to the government in recent weeks.

25- The government of Somalia has strongly condemned the action of the Kharijites group of al Shabab who killed innocent employees of the Hormuud Company.

26- Somali Finance Minister Bihi Iman Ige attended the 21st meeting of the World Bank Development Agency (IDA) in Nairobi, Kenya.

27- The Minister of Internal Affairs of Somalia Mr. Ali Yusuf Ali Hoosh received the Head of UNDP Somalia, Lionel Laurens in Mogadishu.

28- The Minister of Internal Security of Somalia Mr. Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartag) had a meeting with officers from the Egyptian Police, who recently visited Mogadishu.

29- The Minister of Interior, Mr. Ali Yusuf Ali-Hoosh, received Mr. George Conway, the Deputy Representative of the United Nations in Somalia in charge of coordinating humanitarian affairs, in his office.

30- The Minister of Internal Affairs of Somalia Mr. Ali Yusuf Ali (Hoosh) held an introductory meeting in Mogadishu with the leaders of Galmudug, Hir Shabelle, and Southwest states.

31- The Minister of Defense of Somalia Mr. Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur had a meeting with the Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations and the Head of UNSOS Ms. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira.

32- The Minister of Internal Security of Somalia, Mr. Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartag) received the Special Envoy of the African Union in charge of Somalia, Ambassador Mohamed El-Amine Souef and officers of ATMIS.

33- The Minister of Trade and Industries of Somalia, MP Jibril Abdirashid Haji, received the representative of UNDP in Somalia, Mr. Lionel Laurens and discussed the cooperation between the two sides, the development of private businesses, job creation and the overall economic growth of the country.

34- The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation of Somalia, Mr. Mohamed Abdi Hayir attended the 33rd African Ministers of Agriculture meeting in Morocco, which discussed the development of agricultural production.

35- The Chairman of the National Disaster Management Agency, Mr. Mohamud Macalin, launched a project to strengthen the connection between the systems that provide dangerous warnings at the federal and regional levels.

36- The Commander of the Land Forces, General Dayah Abdi Abdulle, opened a training session for officers from the divisions and brigades of the Somali National Army in Mogadishu.

37- The Somali National Army has carried out operations against the Kharijites Al Shabab in areas under Buolaburte District in Hiiraan Region.

38- The Director of the National Security and Intelligence Agency, NISA, Abdullahi Mohamed Ali Sanbaloolshe and officers from the national army visited areas in Hiran and Middle Shabelle regions of Hir Shabelle State.

39- The Minister of Internal Security of Somalia, Mr. Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartag) inspected the Headquarters of the Immigration and Citizenship Agency, where he held meetings with the directorate and staff of the agency.
