Mogadishu(SONNA)-The Federal Government of Somalia has strongly condemned the violence that erupted in Awdal region, specifically in the city of Borama, describing the incident as “regrettable and avoidable.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, the government extended its condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a swift recovery to the injured. The ministry emphasized that such acts of violence only worsen an already tense situation and urged authorities in Somaliland to take responsibility in addressing the grievances of the local population.
The government also called on traditional elders, religious leaders, businesspeople, women, youth, and the wider community in Awdal to maintain calm, refrain from actions that could escalate the conflict, and work to uphold peace and stability within their communities. The statement urged all sides to pursue dialogue as the primary path toward resolving ongoing tensions.
Additionally, the Federal Government reaffirmed its readiness to support medical assistance for those injured in the incident and pledged to participate in any humanitarian response required.
