The Federal Government of Somalia has issued an official clarification regarding recent reports about the removal of humanitarian commodities from a warehouse affected by port expansion activities at the Port of Mogadishu, reaffirming its commitment to humanitarian principles and cooperation with international partners.
In an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that all commodities removed from the affected warehouse have been fully returned to the World Food Programme (WFP). The Ministry took full responsibility for the incident and expressed regret over its occurrence.
To ensure the continued, secure, and uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian assistance, the Government has allocated a larger and more suitable warehouse for WFP within the Mogadishu Port area. The new facility is expected to improve storage capacity and support more efficient distribution of humanitarian supplies.
While noting that it has maintained consistent and constructive communication with WFP over many years on operational and logistical matters, the Federal Government acknowledged the importance of further strengthening coordination and information-sharing with international donors. In this regard, it will review the circumstances surrounding the incident and take steps to enhance communication mechanisms to help prevent similar issues in the future.
The Federal Government of Somalia reaffirmed its full commitment to humanitarian principles, transparency, and accountability, and emphasized the value of its close partnership with the World Food Programme, the United States, and the broader international donor community.
