Mogadishu (SONNA) – The Minister of Family and Human Rights Development of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, has officially opened the Somali Women’s Business Expo in Mogadishu as part of activities marking International Women’s Day on March 8 and Somali Women’s Week.
The minister highlighted the vital role women play in the country’s development, noting that the exhibition goes beyond promoting business. She said the event will also provide free medical screenings and treatment for women, particularly those from low-income communities.
Chairperson of the Somali Women Entrepreneurs Association, Xersiyo Abdulle Siyad, and Duniyo Mohamed Ali, representing women’s organizations, expressed appreciation to the ministry for initiating the program aimed at supporting women entrepreneurs and vulnerable women.
Also addressing the event were the Director General of the Ministry, Mohamed Bashir Omar, and the Secretary General of the Banaadir Regional Administration, Bilan Bile Mahmoud.
Somalia annually marks Somali Women’s Week alongside International Women’s Day, with this year’s focus centered on expanding economic opportunities and providing healthcare support for women.
