Mogadishu, Somalia – The 2nd Military Police Course, organized by the European Union Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM-S), has successfully concluded after 14 weeks of rigorous training. The closing ceremony, held on January 13th at the General Dhagabadan Training Center (GDTC), was graced by prominent figures such as EUTM-S Mission Force Commander Brigadier General Giuseppe Zizzari, EU Ambassador to Somalia H.E. Karin Johansson, Head of Mission of EUCAP Somalia Mr. Kęstutis Lančinskas, and Deputy Land Force Commander of the Somali National Army (SNA) General Abdullahi Adan Ciro.

Brig. Gen. Zizzari praised the soldiers for their dedication and professionalism, acknowledging the intense and demanding nature of the training. Participants acquired vital skills and knowledge, such as checkpoint searches and fighting in built-up areas, equipping them to effectively support the Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF) in ensuring security and stability in the region.

EUTM-S, launched on April 7, 2010, collaborates with the SNAF and the Ministry of Defence. In its 9th mandate, which commenced on January 1, 2025, the mission contributes to building accountable Somali Security Forces, providing strategic advice, mentoring, and capacity building within the Mogadishu area.

Approximately 30 Military Police soldiers completed the special operations training, designed to equip them with advanced operational skills. EU Ambassador Karin Johansson reiterated the EU’s commitment to supporting the Somali military, emphasizing the importance of a highly skilled force in maintaining national security.

General Abdullahi Aden Hussein (Ciro) expressed gratitude for the EU’s continued support and urged the newly trained soldiers to apply their newfound knowledge and skills in their national duties. “Your responsibility is immense; use this training to serve and protect our nation,” he encouraged.

The successful completion of the training program shows the importance of international collaboration in enhancing Somalia’s security infrastructure. At the ceremony’s conclusion, the trained soldiers and officers were awarded certificates and essential equipment to aid them in future operations, marking a significant step forward in strengthening Somalia’s military proficiency.
