Mogadishu (SONNA) – The European Union Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM-S) successfully concluded five specialized training courses on May 25, significantly enhancing the skills and operational readiness of Somali soldiers to bolster national security. A closing ceremony marking this achievement was held at the General Dhagabadan Training Center (GDTC).
The intensive programs included a diverse range of crucial disciplines: the Shooting Instructor Course, Ammo Depot Course, Advanced Mission Planning Course, Intermediate Mission Planning Course, and Basic Mission Planning Course. These courses demanded considerable dedication from all participants, equipping them with essential skills and in-depth knowledge vital for Somalia’s security and defense capabilities.
Brigadier General Giuseppe Zizzari, the EUTM-S Mission Force Commander, addressed the ceremony, commending the soldiers for their professionalism and commitment throughout the training period. He emphasized the importance of their newly acquired expertise for the Somali National Army’s operational capacity.
The event saw the presence of several high-level officials, including EUCAP Chief of Staff Mr. Brian Richard, TRADOC Commander Colonel Ahmed Essa Ahmed, and GDTC Commander Lieutenant Colonel Muhudiin Ahmed Mohamud, alongside other distinguished guests.
The experience gained through these comprehensive courses is expected to enable the trainees to assume vital roles in supporting and strengthening the Somali National Army, directly contributing to the broader objective of achieving lasting peace and security across Somalia.
Established in 2010, EUTM-S continues its close collaboration with the Somali National Army (SNA) and the Ministry of Defence. Its mission adheres to a “Three Pillar Approach” – training, mentoring, and advising – with the overarching goal of fortifying Somali defense institutions and fostering long-term stability in the region.
