Paris, (SONNA) — The Minister of Education, Culture and Higher Education of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir participated in the High-Level Meeting of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) held in Paris from June 2 to 5.

Somalia, one of 90 countries partnered with GPE, is represented on the GPE Board by a group of 13 countries from Eastern and Central Africa. The summit focused on global education priorities and strategies to enhance the impact of the partnership over the next five years (2026–2030).

Key discussions centered on financial planning and international aid, particularly amid shifting donor priorities and growing challenges in global funding. Participants emphasized that investing in teacher development is fundamental to improving student learning outcomes and preparing future generations.

In light of tightening economic conditions, education stakeholders were urged to adopt innovative advocacy and financing strategies to support sustainable educational development.

While education systems in low-income countries—Somalia included—still face significant challenges, the summit recognized Somalia’s ongoing efforts to improve access and quality through strong collaboration between the government, local communities, and international partners.
