Hiiraan, (SONNA) — The Director of Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), Abdullahi Mohamed Ali (Sanbaloolshe), accompanied by MP Mohamed Abdullahi Buraale and other officials, visited Moqokori district in the Hiiraan region today to encourage Somali National Army (SNA) troops and allied local forces engaged in ongoing operations against al-Shabaab militants.
In the past two days, more than 70 al-Shabaab fighters, including senior commanders, were killed in clashes between Mabaax in Hiiraan and Aadan Yabaal district in Middle Shabelle.
Today, government forces and community-based fighters are closing in on Aadan Yabaal, a former militant stronghold, after routing al-Shabaab in the area. Clearing operations are ongoing to secure and stabilize the region.
