MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Salah Ahmed Jama, today officially inaugurated the Somali Civil Society Conference in Mogadishu. The landmark summit is dedicated to formulating a comprehensive five-year strategic plan that will guide civil society’s integration into the development of national institutions.

In his keynote address, Deputy Prime Minister Salah emphasized the indispensable role of civil society organizations (CSOs) as the backbone of Somalia’s recovery. He highlighted their critical contributions to peacebuilding, social development, and humanitarian response, noting that a robust civil society is essential for sustainable state-building.

“Civil society is the backbone of our nation-building efforts,” the Deputy Prime Minister stated. He commended the constructive proposals and achievements presented by CSO leaders during the opening session and assured them that the government would prioritize their recommendations in policy implementation.

The three-day conference has drawn a diverse group of participants, including government ministers, prominent civil society leaders, and representatives from the international community. The discussions over the coming days will focus on aligning civil society initiatives with national development goals and strengthening the partnership between the government and the public sector.
