Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Second Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Jibril Abdirashid Haji Abdi, has underscored the government’s commitment to strengthening maternal and child healthcare services across the country.
Speaking at an event marking International Midwives Day, the Deputy Prime Minister praised Somali midwives as the backbone of maternal and child health, highlighting their essential role in saving lives and improving community well-being.
“Somali midwives are the cornerstone of our efforts to improve maternal and child health. They deserve recognition, support, and investment,” he stated.
He further announced that the government will provide additional training opportunities to enhance the knowledge and skills of midwives, enabling them to deliver safer and more effective care to mothers and newborns nationwide.
