Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy Attends Conference on Blue Economy in Comoros

Moroni, Comoros – Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Ali Ifiye Ali, recently participated in a high-level conference on the blue economy held in the capital city of Comoros, Moroni. The conference brought together coastal and small island nations of Africa to discuss strategies and initiatives for sustainable development in the marine sector.

The conference, attended by prominent delegates and experts, focused on various aspects related to the blue economy, including sustainable fisheries, marine resources management, and ocean conservation. The participants engaged in fruitful discussions, sharing experiences and best practices to promote responsible practices in the exploitation of marine resources.

One of the highlights of the conference was the adoption of an official declaration named the Moroni Declaration, in recognition of the hosting city. The declaration underscored the commitment of the participating nations to collaborate and implement sustainable measures in the blue economy sector. It emphasized the importance of responsible fishing practices, marine conservation, and the equitable distribution of resources.

During the event, Deputy Minister Ali Ifiye seized the opportunity to hold productive side meetings with regional Ministers of fisheries and blue economy who were in attendance. These bilateral discussions aimed to foster stronger cooperation, exchange valuable insights, and explore potential areas of collaboration among the nations. It demonstrated the commitment of Somalia to actively engage with regional partners in advancing sustainable practices in the fishing and blue economy sectors.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister Ali Ifiye delivered a compelling speech, shedding light on the efforts of the Somali Government to promote sustainable fishing practices and harness the potential of the blue economy for economic development. He highlighted the significance of collaboration among nations in the region to ensure the long-term prosperity of the marine sector.

The conference in Moroni provided an invaluable platform for stakeholders to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and foster regional cooperation in the blue economy. It served as a stepping stone towards building a sustainable future for the marine sector, ensuring the preservation of marine resources for future generations.

The Federal Government of Somalia, represented by Deputy Minister Ali Ifiye, remains committed to implementing responsible practices in the fisheries and blue economy sectors. By actively participating in conferences and engaging with regional partners, Somalia aims to contribute to the collective efforts in achieving a sustainable and prosperous blue economy.
