MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Minister of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, received the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Somalia, Ambassador James Swan, at his office in Mogadishu today. The high-level meeting included other senior officials from the United Nations delegation.
The discussions centered on strengthening the strategic cooperation between the Federal Government of Somalia and the United Nations. Key topics included the current security landscape, the ongoing reform of national security institutions, and the practical implementation of commitments regarding the protection of children in conflict zones.
Both parties engaged in a detailed dialogue concerning the “2025 Action Plan Guide,” a framework designed to safeguard minors affected by armed conflict. Minister Fiqi and Ambassador Swan emphasized the critical need for robust accountability mechanisms, enhanced inter-agency collaboration, and strict preventative measures to ensure children are protected during security operations.
The meeting highlights the continued partnership between Somalia and the UN in advancing peacebuilding efforts and ensuring that human rights principles remain central to the nation’s security transition and stabilization process.
