Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Minister of Defence of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, today attended a ceremony marking the commissioning of a committee tasked with advancing the reform of the Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF). The committee brings together representatives from the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Finance, the SNA Command, and the Office of National Security.
The ceremony was attended by State Minister of Defence, Hon. Omar Ali Abdi, Deputy Minister of Finance, Hon. Abdiqafar Elmi Haange, Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Odowaa Yusuf Raage, Commander of the Land Forces, Maj. Gen. Sahal Abdullahi Omar, alongside other senior officers of the Army.
Minister Fiqi noted that the technical committee has been mandated to separate active duty personnel from retirees, verify troop presence in their respective bases, and implement a modern biometric identification system. He underlined that this initiative is part of the implementation of Presidential Decree No. 238 on defence reform, aimed at building a capable and accountable national army able to fulfil its constitutional mandate of defending the nation.
