Mogadishu (SONNA) – On Thursday, Brigadier General Giuseppe Zizzari, Mission Force Commander of the European Union Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM-S), met with Major General Odowaa Yusuf Rageh, Somali Chief of Defence Force, to discuss ongoing efforts to bolster Somalia’s security sector. This meeting underscored the continued support and dedication of EUTM-S over the years.
Brigadier General Zizzari emphasized the significance of these collaborations in achieving long-term stability in Somalia. He highlighted this meeting as a crucial step towards building a stronger professional relationship and enhancing cooperation between EUTM-S and the Somali National Armed Forces.
During the discussions, both commanders shared their vision for future projects and collaborative opportunities. This exchange not only fostered a deeper mutual understanding but also provided an opportunity for Brigadier General Zizzari to extend his congratulations to Major General Rageh on his recent appointment.
The European Union launched the European Union Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM-S) in April 2010 with a mandate to support the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) and assist national institutions. Since its inception, EUTM-S has organized nearly 200 different courses, training over 9,500 individuals and preparing more than 600 Somali National Armed Forces trainers.
In the last two years alone, under its 8th mandate, EUTM-S has conducted almost 50 courses, training over 1,100 trainees. These efforts reflect the mission’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the capabilities of Somalia’s security forces.
The fruitful meeting between Brigadier General Zizzari and Major General Rageh marks a significant milestone in the collaborative efforts to strengthen Somalia’s security sector.
