Mogadishu, Somalia – The long-awaited results of the 8th-grade examinations for the Banadir region have been officially released, marking a moment of celebration and reflection for thousands of students and families. After months of anticipation, the Ministry of Education made the results public on August 14, 2025, providing clarity on the academic achievements of a generation poised to shape the future of Somalia. The announcement is being hailed as a significant step forward in the region’s commitment to educational excellence and transparency.

The exams saw a remarkable participation rate, with 41,036 students sitting for the test across 108 examination centers throughout the Banadir region. This figure comes from an initial pool of 41,655 students who were scheduled to take the exam, showcasing a high level of dedication from students to complete their academic journey despite various challenges. The overall pass rate was 5,790 students, a number that brings immense joy and relief to the community.

The results reveal an especially encouraging trend in the performance of female students. For the first time, girls have surpassed their male counterparts in the pass rates, with girls achieving a 50% pass rate compared to the 49% for boys. This achievement is a beacon of progress and a powerful message about the growing role of young women in shaping the nation’s future. The results also reflect the concerted efforts of educators and the government to promote gender equality in education.

In a moment of immense pride for the entire region, the top three students with the highest scores were all girls, shattering previous records and setting a new precedent for academic success. These students have become a source of inspiration for their peers and the community at large. The highest-scoring students are:

  • First Place: Sakiyo Abdullahi Ali Iman
  • Second Place: Zahra Ahmed Ali Mohamed
  • Third Place: Maimun Ramadan Ali Omar

The Ministry of Education has made the full results accessible to all students and their families through a dedicated official website, banadir.exam.so, ensuring a streamlined and transparent process for retrieving individual scores. This digital accessibility is a modern step toward simplifying the examination process and providing timely information to the public. The government has expressed its commitment to supporting all students in their next steps, whether they continue their academic pursuits or choose vocational training. This is not merely an announcement of exam results but a positive harbinger of a more educated and prosperous future for Somalia.
