Addis Ababa, SONNA – The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), H.E. Mahmoud Youssouf, held a high-level meeting with U.S. Ambassador to the African Union, Stephanie S. Sullivan, earlier today at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa. The discussions centered on enhancing AU-U.S. cooperation and exploring new avenues for collaboration.
During the engagement, Chairperson Youssouf emphasized the strategic significance of the AU-U.S. partnership, particularly in supporting stabilization efforts in Somalia. Both leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing peace and security in the region.
“The partnership between the African Union and the United States remains vital in addressing critical challenges, including peacebuilding and conflict resolution,” said Youssouf. He highlighted the importance of sustained cooperation in ensuring stability in Somalia and other conflict-affected areas.
Ambassador Sullivan echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the U.S. government’s continued support for AU-led initiatives. “The United States values its collaboration with the African Union in promoting peace, security, and sustainable development across the continent,” she stated.
The meeting also explored potential areas for expanded partnership, including governance, economic development, and climate resilience. Both parties agreed to maintain close coordination to advance mutual priorities.
