Interior Ministries Review Progress on Stabilization and Peace-building in Galmudug — SONNA

Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Director General of the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, Mr. Abdulkadir Ali, and the Minister of Interior of Galmudug State co-chaired a coordination meeting aimed at advancing stabilization, peacebuilding, statebuilding and access to justice in recovering communities across Galmudug.

The meeting brought together key Galmudug line ministries, including those responsible for justice, internal security, youth and water, alongside development partners and institutions whose mandates are central to governance, recovery and service delivery in areas affected by conflict and insecurity.

During the meeting, the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation presented an update on the national stabilization agenda, outlining current priorities, ongoing efforts and the broader direction of government-led stabilization initiatives. Galmudug authorities also shared the state’s stabilization priorities, plans and key needs, with a focus on strengthening local governance, early recovery and service delivery for communities.

Representatives of UNDP and IOM delivered a joint briefing on the Wadajir Nabadeed programme, highlighting progress achieved to date, key priorities and opportunities to strengthen cooperation between government institutions, communities and stabilization partners.

Discussions focused on enhancing coordination among line ministries and partners to ensure that stabilization efforts extend beyond security gains and translate into improved access to justice, public services, youth engagement, water access, effective local administration and community-centered development.

Participants emphasized that sustainable peace and stability require strong local governance, accessible justice systems, reconciliation efforts, reliable public services and meaningful community ownership to ensure that recovery gains are sustained and felt by local communities.
