TRIPOLI (SONNA) – The Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Daud Aweis Jama, joined his counterparts from the Arab League in Tripoli on Thursday to officiate the “Tripoli Media Days” award ceremony. The high-profile event was convened to recognize the resilience and contributions of the press during Libya’s era of post-conflict reconstruction.
The ceremony, attended by Information Ministers from across the Arab world, diplomats, and dignitaries, honored journalists and media institutions that have played a constructive role in navigating the country through years of instability toward a path of recovery.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Daud Aweis expressed the Federal Government of Somalia’s solidarity with the Libyan people. He welcomed the visible signs of stability and development in the North African nation, commending the media’s function in fostering national dialogue and social cohesion.
“Somalia shares in the joy of Libya’s progress,” Minister Aweis stated. “We wish the government and people of Libya continued success and lasting stability as they rebuild their nation.”
The Minister also took the opportunity to highlight the deep-rooted diplomatic relationship between Mogadishu and Tripoli. He emphasized that Somalia is keen to further expand cooperation between the two nations across various sectors.
Minister Aweis pointed to the recent high-level diplomatic engagements as evidence of this commitment, specifically citing the official visit of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to Libya in February 2025. That visit laid the groundwork for a renewed era of partnership, which this week’s engagement in Tripoli continues to build upon.
