The Federal Government of Somalia, in coordination with the US forces, conducted a successful operation that resulted in the elimination of a senior commander of the terrorist group Al Shabab in the Middle Juba region on Sunday, December 17, 2023.

The operation was planned and executed by the Somali National Army and the US forces, using unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) to target the Khawarij leader who was responsible for the group’s armed operations in the region.

The government confirms that the commander was killed in the strike. The government also assures that no civilian casualties or collateral damage occurred as a result of the operation.

The government commends the bravery and professionalism of the Somali National Army and the US forces for carrying out this operation, which is another step in the eradication of the Khawarij’s bloodthirsty group that poses a threat to the peace and development of the Somali people and the region.

The government reaffirms its commitment to eliminate the remnants of the Al Shabab group and achieve a peaceful and stable Somalia, free from terrorism, with the support of its people and international friends.

The government calls on all Somalis to unite and cooperate with the security forces in their efforts to restore law and order and protect the sovereignty and dignity of the nation.

The government also urges the international community to continue its support and solidarity with the Somali people and the government in their fight against terrorism and extremism.

The government will provide further details on the operation as they become available.
