NAIROBI, SONNA – Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya, Jabril Ibrahim Cabdulle, officially opened the annual Lady Justice Joyce Aluoch International Intervarsity ADR Moot hosted at the United States International University–Africa (USIU–Africa) in Nairobi.
The prestigious competition brings together students from leading universities across Africa to debate and develop solutions to pressing continental challenges. This year’s moot focuses on resolving disputes related to open trade and cross-border conflicts, with particular emphasis on the African Continental Free Trade Area (#AfCFTA).
In his keynote address, Ambassador Jabril underscored the importance of strengthening intra-African trade and finding African-led solutions to emerging challenges.
The Ambassador also highlighted the significant role Somali entrepreneurs continue to play in Africa’s trade landscape. “Somali businesspeople have achieved great success in African trade, having learned to be open, responsive, and honest—values that have positively influenced the wider business environment,” he noted.
The opening ceremony was also graced by prominent African figures, including Professor P.L.O. Lumumba and Lady Justice Joyce Aluoch, alongside other distinguished guests.
The ADR Moot, which continues over several days, provides a platform for Africa’s brightest law students to explore innovative approaches to dispute resolution, trade integration, and peacebuilding across the continent.
