Bosaso, SONNA – In a coordinated counter-terrorism operation, the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), in partnership with the Federal Government of Somalia, conducted airstrikes targeting ISIS militants in the Golis Mountains of the Bari region, Puntland State.
The operation, which took place last night, resulted in the elimination of multiple ISIS fighters, with initial reports confirming no civilian casualties. An assessment is currently underway to determine the full impact of the strike.
The airstrikes specifically targeted known ISIS hideouts, aligning with Puntland’s ongoing counter-terrorism initiative led by its Darawish forces in the Al-Miskeed mountain range. This effort is part of a broader strategy to dismantle terrorist networks operating in Somalia.
The Federal Government of Somalia, in collaboration with international partners like AFRICOM, remains steadfast in its commitment to eradicating ISIS and Al-Shabaab, both of which pose serious threats to Somalia’s security and stability.
This operation underscores the ongoing efforts to eliminate terrorist safe havens, disrupt their activities, and ensure the safety of Somali citizens. The government urges continued vigilance and cooperation from local communities in the fight against extremism.
