Mogadishu, Somalia – The African Union Commission has expressed its strong support for the recent political developments in Somalia, welcoming the signing of a revised electoral framework agreement. The accord, signed on August 25, 2025, between President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of the Federal Republic of Somalia and a political wing of the Salvation Forum, is seen as a crucial step toward the election of the country’s next federal President and Members of Parliament.

In an official statement, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, congratulated the signatories and urged them to proceed with its scrupulous implementation. He also called on all Somali stakeholders to fully support this political achievement and to use dialogue and consensus to resolve all remaining issues in the electoral process.

The Chairperson’s message also encouraged the international community to continue supporting Somalia’s democratic and state-building processes, aligning their efforts with the priorities set by Somali institutions. The African Union reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to accompanying Somalia and its people on their path toward lasting peace, security, and and stability. This endorsement highlights the AU’s recognition of the agreement as a key element in Somalia’s ongoing journey toward a more stable and inclusive political future.
