Mogadishu, SONNA — The National Environment and Climate Change Summit was officially inaugurated today by Acting Deputy Prime Minister Salah Jama. The summit brings together a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, representatives from civil society, youth activists, and business leaders, with the shared goal of advancing Somalia’s climate agenda.
The event focuses on strengthening Somalia’s commitment to sustainable development and climate resilience, aligning with national priorities and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Discussions will include strategies for environmental protection, adaptation to climate change, and promoting green economic growth.
Acting Deputy Prime Minister Salah Jama highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing the pressing challenges posed by climate change, emphasizing that Somalia’s future depends on sustainable and inclusive environmental policies.
“This summit is a critical platform for advancing coordinated action on climate change, bringing together all sectors of society to ensure a healthier and more resilient Somalia,” he said.
The summit will run over several days, featuring expert panels, workshops, and stakeholder consultations aimed at shaping policies that respond to Somalia’s unique environmental challenges.
