Jowhar, Hirshabelle (SONNA): The capital of Hirshabelle State, Jowhar, became the focal point for national humanitarian efforts today as a high-level delegation led by the Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mohamud Moalim Abdulle, arrived ahead of the highly anticipated Somalia Humanitarian Forum (CHF). The Commissioner and his delegation received a warm and vibrant reception from officials and community members upon their arrival, setting a collaborative tone for the critical discussions planned for the coming days.
The visit culminated in a substantive meeting between Commissioner Abdulle and the President of Hirshabelle State, Mr. Ali Gudlawe Hussein, at the Presidential Palace in Jowhar. The conversation between the two leaders was centred on fortifying the essential cooperation between the Federal Government and Federal Member States in the face of ongoing humanitarian challenges.
During their dialogue, the officials meticulously reviewed strategies for improving disaster preparedness and rapid response mechanisms across the country. They focused intently on the need to enhance the overall effectiveness of humanitarian operations, which are vital for communities frequently impacted by climate-induced crises and internal displacement.
President Gudlawe extended a deeply appreciative welcome to the SoDMA delegation. The meeting highlighted the shared vision for a more coordinated and robust national approach to managing both sudden-onset and protracted humanitarian crises.
Commissioner Abdulle expressed his gratitude to the Hirshabelle President for the gracious and colourful reception, noting that the choice of Jowhar to host the Somalia Humanitarian Forum (CHF) is significant. He emphasized that the forum, scheduled to officially open tomorrow, is designed to serve as a pivotal platform for harmonizing the relief efforts and collaborative initiatives among various aid organizations and government bodies operating across Somalia.
The CHF is expected to convene key stakeholders from government, international non-governmental organizations, and local civil society to discuss funding priorities, operational efficiency, and sustainable solutions to Somalia’s complex humanitarian landscape. The pre-forum meeting between the leadership of SoDMA and Hirshabelle State signals a strong commitment to inter-governmental synergy, an absolutely essential component for translating policy into impactful on-the-ground assistance.
The outcome of these high-level discussions is poised to powerfully influence the strategies and cooperation frameworks that will govern Somalia’s humanitarian action in the coming year, marking a concerted stride toward greater national resilience.
