MOGADISHU, May 6, 2026 — The Minister of Public Works, Reconstruction, and Housing, H.E. Ayub Ismail Yusuf, convened a high-level strategic session today with the leadership of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Somalia. The executive meeting focused on accelerating infrastructure development and enhancing the national framework for the resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
Minister Yusuf confirmed that the Federal Government has formally designated specific land tracts for IDP resettlement, engineered to include comprehensive essential services. A core component of this strategy involves the establishment of vocational training centers designed to provide sustainable livelihoods and economic resilience for displaced populations.
Representing the IOM, Mr. Manuel Marques Pereira reaffirmed the organization’s full commitment to supporting the Ministry’s urban development and social welfare initiatives. The delegation specifically highlighted the ongoing impact of specialized programs including Daris-Wacan, Saameynta, and Resilience, which remain pivotal to the state’s broader reconstruction objectives.
This coordination underscores the Ministry’s mandate to lead effective resettlement initiatives and stabilize national infrastructure through robust international partnerships.
