Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Chairperson of the National Independent Human Rights Commission (NIHRC), Dr. Maryan Khasim, held high-level talks with a delegation from the Centre for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC), led by Africa Director Vianney Bisimwa, to advance cooperation on civilian protection, strengthen human rights oversight, and reinforce accountability in the context of ongoing security operations in Somalia.
The engagement comes as Somalia adopts its National Civilian Protection Policy, seen as a major milestone in strengthening safeguards for civilians during armed conflict and security operations, and advancing a more structured approach to civilian harm prevention, tracking and response.
“The Commission is fully committed to advancing civilian protection and ensuring human rights are upheld in all security operations,” Dr Maryam said, stressing NIHRC’s role in monitoring, complaints handling and promoting accountability to ensure the policy translates into tangible protection for civilians.
