Zwolle, Netherlands — As the sun set during the holy month of Ramadan, Somali families, elders, and youth gathered in Zwolle for a warm community Iftar that celebrated togetherness far from home.
The event was organized by the Somalische Federatie Organisatie in Nederland and the Kardoaid Foundation, led by chairman Abdikadir Ali Nuune, with support from leaders of Quba Mosque.
Long tables filled with traditional Somali dishes welcomed dozens of community members who came to break their fast together. Volunteers and families worked side by side preparing the meal, turning the gathering into a moment of shared culture, conversation, and connection.
“We are proud that our community continues to come together every week during Ramadan,” Chairman Abdikadir Ali Nuune told attendees, thanking volunteers whose efforts made the evening possible.
Beyond the meal, the program also included a short information session from representatives of Islamic Funeral Care Amsterdam, who explained Islamic funeral services available in the Netherlands and answered questions from community members.
At the end of the evening, volunteers from SFON and Kardoaid received certificates of appreciation for their dedication. Former SFON chairman Abas Ali praised the organizers for strengthening unity among Somalis living in the Netherlands.
For many who attended, the evening was more than just a meal — it was a reminder of community, faith, and belonging during Ramadan.
