Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The National Commission for Refugees and IDPs of the Federal Republic of Somalia held a meeting in Mogadishu to celebrate International Women’s Day, highlighting the important role women play in society, their struggle to secure their rights, and the achievements they have made in politics, the economy, and social development.
The International Women’s Day event was attended by officials from government agencies, representatives of international organizations supporting Somalia, as well as Somali women, displaced persons, and refugees who have sought asylum in the country.
Maryan Osman Mohamed, Legal Advisor at the National Refugee and IDP Agency, speaking at the event, said it is very important to support Somali women, as they are the backbone of state-building, peace, and social development.
International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 8. It is a global day to recognize the role of women in societal development, highlight their efforts to secure their rights, and celebrate their achievements in politics, the economy, and the general life of society.
