NEW YORK, United Nations – The Arab Republic of Egypt has issued a categorical rejection of Israeli diplomatic maneuvers in the Horn of Africa, expressing its “full opposition” to any interference in the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia. Addressing the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Tuesday, the Egyptian delegation delivered a stern warning against actions that threaten the territorial integrity of its strategic partner.
During the urgent open briefing regarding the situation in Somalia, Cairo’s representatives reaffirmed their unwavering support for the Federal Government in Mogadishu. The delegation emphasized that Egypt rejects any attempts to fragment the Somali state, characterizing the unity of the Federal Republic as a “red line” for regional stability. The diplomats argued that external meddling in Somalia’s internal affairs constitutes a direct violation of international law and the charters of both the United Nations and the African Union.
The Egyptian statement highlighted the deep strategic and historical ties binding Cairo and Mogadishu. The delegation made it clear that Egypt views the security of Somalia as inextricably linked to its own national security and that of the wider Arab world. By taking a firm stand at the Security Council, Egypt sought to mobilize international opinion against the legitimization of separatist entities, warning that such precedents could ignite further conflict in an already volatile region.
