MOGADISHU, Somalia – A high-level delegation from the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia has successfully concluded its participation in the Eastern Africa Parliamentary Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition conference. The strategic summit, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, brought together legislative representatives from across the region to address critical agricultural challenges and policy frameworks.
Spanning four days, the forum saw the attendance of key Somali officials, including several Members of Parliament and the Director of the General Secretariat of the House of the People, Mr. Mohamed Hussein Abdullahi (Maarso). The conclusion of the event marks a renewed focus on legislative involvement in combating hunger and improving nutritional standards across East Africa.
The primary agenda of the conference focused on strengthening parliamentary leadership regarding food security and nutrition. Delegates engaged in extensive discussions on transforming food and agricultural systems to be more resilient and sustainable. The sessions explored how legislative bodies can effectively utilize their mandate to influence policy, allocate resources, and oversee the implementation of agricultural reforms.
During the proceedings, the Somali representatives actively engaged with their regional counterparts, outlining the strategic value of the alliance for the Federal Republic of Somalia.
