The Federal Migration and Citizenship Office of the Federal Republic of Somalia has welcomed the official decision by the Federal Government of Germany to recognize the Somali Diplomatic Passport for entry and residence. The decision was formally published in the German Federal Gazette (Bundesanzeiger) on 1 December 2025, marking a significant milestone in bilateral cooperation.
Under the new directive, holders of the Somali Diplomatic Passport are now permitted to enter and reside in Germany with full official recognition—replacing previous procedures in which the document was only acknowledged upon departure from Germany. The development reflects growing confidence in Somalia’s enhanced travel documentation system and its ongoing reforms.
This decision is seen as a strong affirmation of the Somali Government’s efforts to modernize its migration and identification services, improve the quality of national travel documents, and facilitate smoother mobility between the two countries.
The Federal Migration and Citizenship Office commended the Government of Germany for its positive step and expressed hope that the decision will contribute to further strengthening passport recognition and identification systems across partner states.
