Rabat, (SONNA) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, H.E. Mr. Abdisalam Abdi Ali, met on Friday in Rabat with H.E. Mr. Nasser BOURITA, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates of the brotherly Kingdom of Morocco, to reaffirm the two countries’ commitment to strengthening brotherly bilateral ties through a comprehensive cooperation agreement.
During the meeting, the two ministers signed a cooperation roadmap for 2026–2028. The roadmap focuses on expanding collaboration across key sectors, including agriculture, water and irrigation, maritime fishing, tourism, renewable energy, education and vocational training, higher education, health, security, economic investment, climate change, sport, and culture.
The agreement increases the annual scholarship quota for Somali students to 120. These scholarships will cover university, technical, and vocational training.
The two ministers also signed a visa‑waiver agreement for holders of diplomatic passports. This agreement is intended to facilitate diplomatic exchanges between Rabat and Mogadishu.
Both sides emphasized the importance of coordination and political consultation within international and regional organizations. They agreed that such collaboration helps align positions on shared concerns while respecting principles of peace, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The two ministers reaffirmed their steadfast support for the independence and sovereignty of both nations, commending the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797.
The talks were conducted in the spirit of a “South–South” partnership between two African nations, signaling renewed momentum in Somali–Moroccan relations and a shared determination to build a strong, diversified, and forward-looking cooperation framework.
