Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The members of both Houses of the Federal Parliament of Somalia convened today for the sixth joint sitting of the 7th session at the Parliament Headquarters in Mogadishu. The meeting was chaired by the Speaker of the House of the People, H.E. Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madoobe), accompanied by the deputy speakers of both Houses.
The main agenda of the session was the third reading and vote on the Final Accounts of the 2024 national budget, submitted earlier by the Ministry of Finance.
At the outset, the Chair of the Budget, Finance, Planning, International Cooperation and Oversight Committee of the House of the People, MP Abdi Ibrahim Warsame (Qowdhan), presented to the joint Houses the committee’s report on the third reading of the 2024 Final Accounts, which had been jointly reviewed over the past weeks by the budget committees of both Houses.
Following deliberations, lawmakers from both Chambers voted on the Final Accounts of the 2024 fiscal year. A total of 167 Members of Parliament voted in favour, two voted against, while one MP abstained, thereby approving the Final Accounts.
Speaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madoobe), who closed the session, underscored that critical national tasks lie ahead in the 7th session. He reaffirmed that both Houses of Parliament will prioritise the review and completion of the Provisional Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia in the coming weeks.
