Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Mogadishu Port Authority has announced that the Port of Mogadishu has been recognized as East Africa’s most efficient gateway in the 2024 Container Port Performance Index (CPPI).
The index, published by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence on September 24, evaluated 407 ports worldwide, including 47 across Africa. Rankings were based on the total time vessels spend in port, from arrival to departure.
Mogadishu Port ranked 163rd globally, outperforming regional competitors such as Berbera (243rd), Dar es Salaam (360th), Djibouti (364th), and Mombasa (375th). This performance placed Mogadishu among Africa’s top five ports, alongside Port Said (Egypt), Tanger-Mediterranean (Morocco), Dakar (Senegal), and Toamasina (Madagascar).
Ambassador Mohamed Ali Nur, Director General of the Mogadishu Port Authority, said the achievement demonstrates that a port can remain globally competitive even without massive infrastructure investments. He added that the recognition strengthens Somalia’s role in regional and international trade.
