Beijing, (SONNA) – The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia in Beijing, China, held a grand celebration marking the 65th anniversary of Somalia’s independence, attended by senior officials, ambassadors, diplomats, Chinese government representatives, scholars, businesspeople, and members of the Somali diaspora in China.
The event, held at the embassy’s premises, featured an exhibition of historic photographs highlighting Somalia’s path to independence and its progress since, along with traditional Somali performances showcasing the country’s rich cultural heritage. Videos depicting Somalia’s natural beauty, creative spirit, and ongoing development were also displayed.
In her keynote speech, Ambassador Dr. Hodan Osman Abdi underscored the significance of Independence Day, Somalia’s development efforts, and the strengthening friendship between Somalia and China.
Ambassador Xue Bing, China’s Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, also addressed the gathering, praising Somalia’s strides toward stability and reaffirming China’s continued support for Somalia’s progress.
During the event, it was announced that President Xi Jinping had sent a congratulatory message to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, extending warm greetings to the Somali people on the occasion of their national day and expressing China’s commitment to furthering bilateral ties.
The celebration also featured traditional Somali games, beautifully performed by Somali youth, as well as cultural displays by Chinese students, which captivated the audience.
The Somali Embassy expressed its sincere gratitude to its staff, Somali students, and volunteers who played a key role in organizing the successful event—an occasion that once again reflected the unity and dynamism of the Somali community in China.
The celebration was described as memorable and uplifting, carrying a strong message of national pride, solidarity, and hope, while highlighting the positive role Somali communities abroad play in promoting Somalia’s image on the global stage.
