Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Minister of Family and Human Rights of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Amb. Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi, officially launched the written examination for candidates seeking appointment to the Independent National Human Rights Commission.

The examination, held in Mogadishu, is a key part of the transparent selection process for members of the Commission. According to Mr. Omar Farooq Osman, Chair of the Independent Selection Committee representing civil society, 302 Somali citizens initially applied for the role. Following a competitive screening process, 58 applicants met the eligibility criteria and were shortlisted to sit for the written test.

When questioned about the criteria and procedures used in the selection, Chairman Osman clarified that in addition to meeting academic requirements, any candidate currently holding a government position must first resign before being eligible for nomination to the Commission.

Speaking to the media at the examination center, Minister Al-Makhzoumi described the process as a historic step towards strengthening independent human rights institutions in Somalia. She commended the transparency of the process and extended her best wishes to all participating candidates.

The written test marks the second phase of the recruitment process, following an initial registration phase. The final stage will involve oral interviews to determine the final composition of the Commission.
