Dhuusamareeb, Galmudug State – Members of the Somali Media Council (SMC) were warmly welcomed to Dhuusamareeb, the capital of Galmudug State, with a grand Iftar reception hosted by King Bashir Ciise on the evening of March 15, 2025. The event, held at King Bashir’s residence, brought together government officials, civil society representatives, and media stakeholders to celebrate the Council’s contributions to the development of Somalia’s media landscape.
The reception was attended by prominent figures, including ministers from the Galmudug Administration, the Governor of Galgaduud Region, Elmi Ali Ganey, and leaders from various civil society organizations. In their remarks, attendees praised the Somali Media Council for its pivotal role in enhancing the professionalism and intelligence of the Somali media community, as well as its efforts to unify media outlets across the country.
Speaking at the event, King Bashir Ciise emphasized the importance of the Council’s work in fostering a well-informed public. “The Somali Media Council plays a critical role in building the capacity of our journalists and connecting media sectors across the nation. Their efforts are essential in raising awareness and promoting unity among our people,” he said.
Governor Elmi Ali Ganey echoed these sentiments, highlighting the Council’s contributions to the development of the Galmudug media community. “The training and support provided by the Somali Media Council are invaluable to our region. We are grateful for their commitment to improving the quality of journalism in Somalia,” he stated.
Hinda Jama, the Head of Training at the Somali Media Council, and Abdiqani Abdullahi, the Council’s Senior Advisor, expressed their gratitude for the warm reception. They explained that the purpose of their visit to Dhuusamareeb was to conduct a training program aimed at enhancing the skills of local journalists. “This training is part of our broader plan to build the capacity of Somali journalists and improve the quality of media across the country,” said Hinda Jama.
The Somali Media Council has begun a three-day training course in Dhuusamareeb today, focusing on media development and capacity-building for journalists in the Galmudug region. The initiative is part of the Council’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the Somali media community and promote public awareness through high-quality journalism.
